She was born in Brooklyn, New York and graduated from Pratt Institute. I would recommend it to a person who wants to read a short book that is interesting. Laura Joffe Numeroff is the NYT best-selling author of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, What Mommies/Daddies Do Best and Raising a Hero. I thought "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" was a very short and easy book to read. The main theme in this book is being kind, because the boy had to be kind enough to bring the mouse inside his house and treat him to a cookie and a nice glass of milk. I think it is in modern times because of all the things that the boy gets out of his cupboards. The story takes place in some boy's house by the look of the front cover and all the pictures inside. 10 primary works 22 total works Book 1 If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Joffe Numeroff 4. The boy who gives him the cookie is pictured but is never really mentioned. The main character in this story is the mouse, who likes to eat cookies and make sure he looks nice. After that, he will ask to look in the mirror to see if he has a milk mustache, and the story goes on. Then he will ask for a straw for the milk. For instance, if you gave it a cookie, it will ask for a glass of milk. The story goes on with all the other things that the mouse might ask for after you give it a cookie. "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" is a book written about a little mouse that was given a cookie.

She wanted her freedom back after dropping out of school, getting kicked out of her house, and having - uh - a baby so young. When Vera turned thirteen, her father told her, “ When you were just a little baby, your mother took a job over at Joe’s. Vera’s mother Cindy Sindy was 17 when Vera was born, Ken just a year older. It’s a family history where her mother left when Vera was twelve, going to Las Vegas with a new husband and sending Vera one birthday card a year. It’s a Vera who has a father who thinks she should be working full time while going to school. Because the Vera that starts with the funeral is a Vera who is tough, lonely, and drinking. She was a good person from a good family.”Ĭharlie’s perspective, especially this, shows us a Vera we didn’t know before. Loving Vera Dietz was the scariest thing that ever happened to me. I war born to a man like my father and a woman like my mother, and I had to save Vera from myself. As far as I was concerned, I didn’t have a choice. As he explains, “ I regret everything that happened with Vera. Of course, every now and then the dead kid - Charlie - speaks up. A few chapters later, Ken Dietz (Vera’s dad) has a “brief word” to share. The next chapter is three and half months later. Part One, The Funeral: Vera at Charlie’s funeral. The Good: The structure of Please Ignore Vera Dietz is fabulous, just the kind of “confusing but not really” storytelling I enjoy. 5/24/2023 0 Comments The other americans laila lalamiYet both produce anxiety and lead down distinct paths of either building walls or mending fences. The latter requires true engagement with a person. It’s easier to demonize (and consume) than to sympathize from physical proximity. It protects from difference: of skin color, culture, and opinion. In this sense, community functions as a collective imagination that guards nation, neighborhood, and personal space. On the other hand, when traced back to its Latin roots in communitas, Esposito finds it defined by indebtedness and reciprocity, race and citizenship notwithstanding.Īpproaching immigration from these definitions helps contextualize how mass media has easily constructed otherness out of immigrants, seen as outsiders who “invade” borders. He concludes that, in today’s body politic, community has come to mean “property,” belonging to subjects joined together, delimited by borders. IN HIS BOOK Communitas: The Origin and Destiny of Community, Italian political philosopher Roberto Esposito analyzes the sociopolitical and etymological constructs of community. 5/24/2023 0 Comments Dark lady of dna rosalind franklinThis is a powerful story of a remarkable simpleminded, forthright and tempestuous young woman who, at the age of fifteen, decided she was going to be a scientist, but who was airbrushed out of the greatest scientific discovery of the twentieth centuryĪccess-restricted-item true Addeddate 20:45:09 Boxid IA127209 Camera Canon EOS 5D Mark II City New York Donor With the aid of these, plus their own knowledge, Watson and Crick discovered the structure of the molecule that genes are composed of-DNA, the secret of life. Just as mysterious, macabre and magnificent as the others, Sayers was responsible for gifting the world Lord Peter Wimsey, so I felt it was about time I introduced myself. I loved how they all had two sides the side they showed in public, and the side they kept hidden from the eyes of the Kingdom. Eggers writing was engaging and his characters were very unique.
